Tamoanchan, or “land of rain and mist,” refers to a mythical place represented in art by a flowering tree bursting forth with liquid resembling blood. It also represents a past and future place where the first woman, Ixnextli/Xochiquetzal, picked one of its flowers leading to the expulsion of people from the flowery paradise.
